The MSc programmes at UGHE under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MFSP) are fully-funded graduate scholarships for young African scholars, with a focus on transforming health professions education and global health delivery. The partnership aims to support up to 500 young Africans over 10 years, especially young women, refugees/displaced persons and persons with disabilities.
Specifically, one of the offered programmes is the Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc-HPE) an 18-month, 180 credit, blended programme (online + in-person) at UGHE, Rwanda.

  • City: Butaro-Burera (UGHE campus).

  • Note: Although delivery is blended (online + in-person sessions), the in-person sessions will be held at the campus in Rwanda.

Funding

  • The scholarship covers full tuition for the master’s programme.
  • Additional benefits: monthly living allowance/stipend, return flights (economy) to campus for in-person sessions, accommodation & meals for in-person sessions, laptops, mentoring & leadership/entrepreneurship training.
  • No application fee for the MFSP at UGHE.

Eligibility Criteria


Applicants must satisfy:
  • Be citizens or residents of an African country (or hold refugee status within Africa) and be under or at age 35 at time of application (exceptions may apply for persons with disabilities).
  • Have completed a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from a recognised institution; official transcripts and degree certificate needed.
  • Professional experience in teaching, supervision or educational leadership in health-related higher-education institutions is preferred; early-career with evidence of teaching potential is also eligible.
  • Applicants holding a prior master’s degree are not eligible for the MFSP path at UGHE. 
  • Institutional endorsement: if currently employed, you must provide a letter confirming employer support and dedicated study time (especially given blended format and in-person sessions).

  • For the 2026/2027 cycle: Application opens on 22 October 2025. 

Application Deadline

  • Application closes 30 November 2025 at 11:59 PM CAT for the MSc-HPE MFSP route.

  • Interviews are scheduled for December 2025 and final decisions January 2026.



Duration of Program or Opportunity

  • The MSc in Health Professions Education (Direct Entry Track) is 18 months (3 semesters, 180 credits) in blended delivery (online modules plus in-person sessions).

  • Note: The overall MFSP commitment includes the academic training and the leadership/entrepreneurial development components.



Application Process

  1. Choose the applicable master’s programme (e.g., MSc-HPE) at UGHE and check entry requirements.
  2. Complete the online application form, which includes both the UKHE admission component and the MFSP scholarship application part.
  3. Upload required documents: passport/National ID/refugee ID; academic transcripts; degree certificate; employer support letter (if employed); any other supporting documents.
  4. Submit a single completed application; incomplete or multiple submissions may not be considered.
  5. If shortlisted, you may be invited for an interview (December) and then final decision follows January 2026.
