The African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP) is a highly regarded 10-day intensive leadership course based at North-West University (NWU), South Africa. Since 2002, ANLP has trained over 500 mid-career professionals in nutrition science, policy, and program implementation across Africa. The program emphasizes self-awareness, team collaboration, communication, advocacy, and strategic leadership, all through experiential learning and peer reflection. Alumni form a pan-African network of nutrition leaders driving systems-level change.

- Held annually at Elgro River Lodge, near Potchefstroom, Free State province, South Africa
- Occasionally delivered regionally in-country (e.g., Ethiopia) to expand accessibility.
Funding
- The programme aims to offer partial course fee grants to selected applicants with financial need
- Participants are expected to pay their own costs unless sponsored funding may be secured through institutional or external partner support
- No official stipend; travel and accommodation typically covered by participants or their organisations.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a nutrition professional (e.g., nutritionist, dietitian, researcher, academic, government official, or civil society practitioner) working in Africa
- Preferably postgraduate qualification, postdoctoral fellows, or equivalent experience in nutrition science or policy
- Under 40 years old
- Commitment to serving in the African nutrition field and to implementing lessons post-programme.

- Closes 1 October (13:00 CAT), ahead of the March cohort training. Approximately 30 fellows are selected annually.
Duration of Program or Opportunity
- A 10‑day residential leadership course, typically held in March (e.g. 5–15 March 2026)
- Two cohorts annually may be offered to expand reach.

- Review & shortlisting by selection committee
- Selection of 30 successful applicants for each cohort
- If eligible, apply for partial grants after acceptance
- Attend the leadership development training in South Africa
- Alumni commit to a personal action plan and pan-African nutrition engagement upon completion.
