2025/2026 Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship – Abuja, Nigeria  

The Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship is a prestigious 12-month program designed to enhance the expertise of anaesthesiologists in paediatric care. Hosted at the National Hospital Abuja, Nigeria, the fellowship offers two positions starting in September 2025.This initiative is locally led and supported by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists, Smile Train, and Vanderbilt University Medical Centre .

  • Duration:12 months (commencing September 2025)

Eligibility Criteria  

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be registered and practicing medical practitioners in their country of origin.
  • Have completed residency training in Anaesthesia.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in paediatric anaesthesia and teaching.
  • Obtain support from their national anaesthesiology society, which must be a WFSA member society.
  • Secure endorsement from their head of department or hospital management.
  • Commit to returning to their home country to a recognized post upon completion.
  • Preferably be working in a teaching hospital.

Interested candidates should apply through the WFSA's online application platform:

  1. Register or log in to the platform.
  2. Select Chapter: 'Fellowships'.
  3. Choose Category: 'PATA Abuja Fellowship 2025'.
  4. Complete the application form and upload the following documents:
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s national anaesthesiology society.
  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s head of department or hospital management.
  • Copy of medical degree.
  • Copy of specialist anaesthesiology qualification.
  • Certificate of registration with the medical board or council of the participant’s country.
  • Current practicing license from the medical board or council of the participant’s country.
  • Copy of the photograph page of the passport.

Eligible candidates will be required to participate in an interview. Successful applicants will be notified via email by 15 July 2025 and must confirm their intention to accept the fellowship within 3 days of notification. Failure to do so will result in the offer being extended to the next candidate.
