SN Fellowship Program  

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Fellowship Program offers physicians from low-resource countries the opportunity to receive hands-on training in nephrology at leading institutions worldwide. Since its inception in 1985, over 800 nephrologists from more than 100 countries have benefited from this program, enhancing kidney care in their home regions upon completion.

Funding and Duration  

Training Duration:
  • Short-term: 3–6 months
  • Long-term: 7–12 months
  • Funding: Covers travel, accommodation, and living expenses during the training period.

The program emphasizes the importance of fellows returning to their home countries to apply and disseminate the acquired knowledge, thereby improving local nephrology services.

Eligibility Criteria  

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an ISN full or trainee member.
  • Reside and work in a low, lower-middle, or upper-middle-income country as classified by the World Bank.
  • Have completed postgraduate training in internal medicine.
  • Be nominated by a home mentor and have a guarantee of re-employment from the home institution after fellowship completion.
  • Provide recommendations from two senior nephrologists in the home country.
  • Obtain endorsement from the national nephrology society of the home country.
  • For 12-month clinical training applicants: Complete the ISN Fellowship Foundation Course on the ISN Academy before applying.

Applicants are encouraged to prepare and submit their applications well in advance of the deadline to ensure consideration.

ASN Kidney STARS (Students and Residents) Program  

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Kidney STARS Program is designed to inspire and support medical students, residents, and graduate students with an interest in nephrology. This initiative provides participants with the opportunity to attend the ASN Kidney Week, the world's premier nephrology meeting, fostering early engagement in the field and promoting career development.

Participants are required to attend the entire meeting and all program events in person, adhering to all health and safety protocols established by ASN.

Eligibility Criteria  

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a medical student, graduate student, or resident in good standing at the time of ASN Kidney Week.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited training program or university.
  • Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in nephrology.
  • Be able to attend the entire meeting and all program events.
  • Provide a current curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Submit an institutional letter verifying status, confirming active enrollment and, for graduate students, passage of qualifying exams if applicable.

Note: Applicants may apply to multiple travel support opportunities if eligible; however, only one award will be granted per individual.
