ARVO Foundation Collaborative Research Fellowship
The ARVO Foundation Collaborative Research Fellowship is designed to promote international scientific collaboration and innovative research in ophthalmology .Established in 2009, this fellowship pairs early-career researchers from developing countries with established scientists to strengthen ophthalmic research capacities. The one-year fellowship supports projects that may include additional training in specialized equipment or research methodologies.
Fellowship Details
- Location: Collaborative projects between institutions in developing countries and established research centers worldwide.
- Funding Amount: Up to $10,000, based on the submitted budget.
- Duration:1 year (non-renewable).
- Number of Fellowships: Three awarded annually.
- Application Period: August 1 – October 1, 2025.
- Notification of Recipients: December 2025.
- Funding Disbursement: Funds are paid as an honorarium directly to the applicant and can be used for expenses in either location as determined by the collaborators.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of and working in a developing country with the capacity to support eye research beyond a one-time project.
- Have completed their terminal degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) within the past 10 years (2015–2025).
- Not be current or former fellows at the collaborator's institution.
- Ensure the collaborator is a current ARVO member (ARVO will verify membership).
- Note: Only one award will be granted annually to any department/institution.

- Applicant Information: Complete all required fields, including a biosketch.
- Collaborator Information: Details of the collaborating scientist.
- Project Information:
- Title of Project
- Goal: Statement of expected project outcomes.
- Research Capacity Assessment: Confirmation of institutional support, including time, space, and equipment.
- Project Timeline: Project must commence within six months of award notification and be completed within one year.
- Budget: Itemized budget (funds may not be used for equipment, institutional overhead, or administrative fees).
- Funding Disclosure: Disclosure of any commercial relationships.
- Institutional Approval: Name of the official at the applicant's institution who will approve the project.
