International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) Fellowship Program
The IPNA Fellowship Program is a prestigious initiative aimed at enhancing pediatric nephrology care in regions where such expertise is limited or non-existent. Established in 2004, the program has successfully trained over 300 fellows from 71 countries, equipping them with the skills necessary to improve kidney care for children in their home countries.
Funding and Duration
- Duration: Typically 6 to 12 months, depending on the training center and individual training plan.
- Funding: The fellowship provides financial support covering travel, accommodation, and living expenses during the training period.

- Spring Cycle Deadline: May 1
- Autumn Cycle Deadline: October 1
Applicants are encouraged to initiate contact with their preferred training centers well in advance of these deadlines to secure acceptance and prepare necessary documentation.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 30 years old.
- Reside and work in a developing country (classified as low, lower-middle, or upper-middle income by the World Bank).
- Have not received formal training in pediatric nephrology outside their home country.
- Be nominated by a home mentor and institution that guarantees re-employment upon completion of the fellowship.
- Obtain a recommendation from a senior nephrologist in their home country.
- Secure acceptance from a host mentor and institution, preferably within their region, with an agreed-upon training plan.
- Ensure the training plan aligns with the needs of their home institution and can be implemented upon return.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the language of the host country.
Application Process
- Identify and contact a preferred IPNA training center to discuss potential training opportunities and secure acceptance.
- Once accepted, complete the online application form available on the IPNA Fellowship Application Page.
- Prepare and submit the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Letter of acceptance from the host institution.
- Letter of recommendation from a senior nephrologist in the home country.
- Letter from the home institution guaranteeing re-employment.
- Personal statement outlining training goals and how the fellowship will benefit the home institution.
All documents must be submitted in English.
